Method 1: Using Schema Class

The Schema class in Apex provides powerful utilities to access metadata, including record types:

Id recordTypeId = Schema.SObjectType.ObjectApiName.getRecordTypeInfosByDeveloperName().get('RecordType_APINAME').getRecordTypeId();

From above code, replace ‘ObjectApiName’ with the API name of the object and ‘RecordType_APINAME’ with the developer name of the record type.

Method 2: Direct SOQL Query

Direct SOQL queries enable querying record type IDs based on object and record type names:

Id recordTypeId = [SELECT Id FROM RecordType WHERE SObjectType = 'ObjectApiName' AND DeveloperName = 'RecordType_APINAME'].Id;

When to use which method

In order to get Record Type ID in salesforce, it is also essential to use correct way based on specific scenarios.

  • Method 1 (Schema Class): Suitable for scenarios requiring compile-time checking and static code analysis. It provides a type-safe approach and is recommended for most use cases.
